Photo Magnus Rietz
Magnus Rietz is one of Sweden´s finest location and maritime photographers since the 1980s. He is profoundly interested in the cultural heritage of the Stockholm archipelago. In one of his books, `Swedish Lighthouses`, he claims: "There is an attraction. Not only the lighthouses in themselves, but as much the surrounding nature, the small-scale idyllic spots, the traces of hardworking people, the views, the birdlife, are parts of the secret."
Composer Wilhelm Stenhammar
Wilhelm Stenhammar is one of the most distinguished representatives of Swedish music. Stylistically, he belongs with Brahms, originating in Classicism and early Romanticism. The piano works on this DVD come from the turn of the 19th century. You can sense "a peaceful atmosphere, enchanted song, fantasies,
shadow play and the disquiet of the soul" as the Stenhammar scholar Bo Wallner has put it. [ More about Wilhem Stenhammar »]
Piano Niklas Sivelöv
Niklas Sivelöv has, since his debut in 1991, been winning awards throughout Sweden and in international competitions. Now winning acclaim as a composer in his own right, Sivelöv has a wide concert repertoire, with concertos ranging from those of Rachmaninov to Lutoslawski and Ligeto, to piano concertos dedicated to him by contemporary Scandinavian composers such as Einar Englund and Anders Eliasson. Editing Mattias Eklöv
Mattias Eklöv is a musician working with soundmixing of TV and multimedia at Pangstudios in Stockholm. He was born and raised in the archipelago. In Stock- holm Archipelago it was possible for him to use his acknowledged professional talents in putting together picture and music from his childhood environment.
Producer Gunnar Alexandersson
"The film Stockholm Archipelago is an attempt at conveying a feeling I often get when I visit the Stockholm Archipelago. Those moments when nature takes over in your mind. Most people have access to a DVD-player, either in a computer or at home, with the TV-set. To get the archipelago feeling, I lean on three things; Magnus Rietz` pictures of the archipelago in broad strokes with the brush; Wilhelm Stenhammar`s music, performed by Niklas Sivelöv and the soft pace in Mattias Eklöv`s cutting of the film. All these
people have had the archipelago as a source of inspiration and creativity. I hope that is guarantee enough for your reception of the Stockholm Archipelago. Take a trip there during your next coffee break :)"
